It is well known that exposing a puppy to as many new experiences as possible during their early stages is just as important as learning basic commands. This helps them to establish a healthy and positive association which can benefit them for the rest of their life. When they are exposed to new and interesting experiences without any scary things happening during that time, they will develop a good sense of confidence. One of these new experiences should also include gradually introducing them to water and teaching them to swim!
Teaching your puppy to swim in a safe and controlled environment will build your puppies confidence in the water and help them remain calm and safe should they ever get themselves into difficulty, and will also help familiarise them with the hydrotherapy setting should hydrotherapy treatment ever be required in the future.
Swimming adds variety to their exercise regime and is a fantastic way to exercise your puppy helping them to stay fit and healthy. It is a low impact activity, without putting stress or pressure on the developing joints and promotes muscle development to help your puppy to grow up to be strong and agile.
Puppies have boundless energy and curiosity. Swimming engages your puppy both physically and mentally which will tire them out whilst also allowing them to experience new sensations and interactions which is a great source of mental stimulation. This mental stimulation can help prevent common behavioural issues. Swimming is great for stress relief and will help your puppy relax and can even help improve their moods. Puppies swimming regularly are less likely to become stressed or anxious.
Hydrotherapy is also beneficial in young growing dogs diagnosed with developmental conditions.
Hydrotherapy is a great way to exercise your puppy and build their confidence.
